
New Delhi: India's Sports Minister Jitender Singh on Thursday said that the roadmap for India's return to the Olympic fold has been chalked out by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and it will take 30 to 60 days to complete the entire process.
The Sports Minister, who met the IOC officials in Lausanne on Wednesday, said, "The roadmap has been decided by IOC to bring India back into the Olympic fold. Our meeting went off well and IOA, IOC and the Indian government are all on the same page ... It is not my victory but a win for the country, sportspersons and all of us," Singh said.
"The IOC has agreed to work with the Indian government for the new proposed National Sports Bill. The first draft of it is likely by June 30," he added.
Singh was very clear about the role of National Sports Federations (NSF), stating that they need to exhibit transparency. "We told the IOC that we do not want to interfere in the matters of NSFs. We respect their freedom. But since tax payers' money is involved, we would like them to be more transparent. Because of the internal squabbles of NSFs, why should sportspersons suffer?"...
