Google's Independence Day India doodles

India's national bird, the peacock, adorns the Google home page on India's Independence Day. The peacock curves its neck backwards to form the 'G' of the Google logo. The other letters of the Google logo appear in ornate styling behind the peacock's plume. Google has been commemorating India's Independence Day with a doodle on its home page since 2003.Most of the Google doodles had the Indian national flag as the inspiration. But the 2011 and 2012 doodles used other national symbols in place of the Tricolour. Last year a sketch of Delhi's Red Fort took guard on the Google home page on 15th August. The 2010 Google India's Independence Day doodle was perhaps the most creative of all the eight. It was the first and only animated India Independence Day doodle and was done in traditional rangoli style. The second 'O' in the Google logo was in the form of a lotus in the Indian flag's colours that started to take shape as the page was loaded.

Top 10 search engines beyond Google, Yahoo and Bing

The big daddy of search engines, Google, crawls and indexes much of the publicly available content on the World Wide Web. Google also has some competition in the form of Bing. But then Google, in its default avatar, doesn't necessarily serve all of the Internet user's search varied needs (neither does Bing). To fill in the void, there are a number of search engines tailored for specific purposes. Here are the top 10.From its appearance Guruji.com seems to be a Google-like full-fledged search engine, but its strength lies elsewhere. It is said to be the first crawler based search engine developed completely in India and designed to make search simple for Indian users.Traffic driven by torrents hog a huge amount of bandwidth on the Internet and one of the best BitTorrent search engines around is isoHunt. isoHunt tracks the major BitTorrent websites to keep its index updated.

Possible CEOs to succeed Carol Bartz at Yahoo

The search has now begun for a person willing to lead one of the world's most popular Internet properties, Yahoo Inc., whose problems have deepened under its three previous leaders. The challenge is to find someone who can bring a Web 1.0 property into the new digital world of mobile and social Internet. There's also the fact that the CEO job may not exist for long if the company looks to sell itself or break up. Here are some possible CEO candidates to replace Carol Bartz, who was fired after failing to turn the Web portal around.Yahoo's interim chief executive and chief financial officer since July 2009. He is likely the backstop candidate to be the company's permanent CEO. Morse had been CFO at chip-maker Altera Corp. and held various financial management roles at General Electric Co. for more than 15 years. He is seen as a strong operator credited with improving operating profits at Yahoo, mainly through cost-cutting, even as revenue at the company fell. His solid financial background and Silicon Valley experience could be an asset if major strategic moves are pursued, although he could be seen as damaged goods because Bartz had hired him.Ross Levinsohn Yahoo's executive vice president for the Americas. Levinsohn joined the company in October 2010 from Fuse Capital, a digital media and communications investment fund that he co-founded and led as managing director. As a strategist, he helped orchestrate News Corp.'s purchase of Myspace in 2005, an acquisition that ultimately failed. He is seen as well connected in the world of new media.
