After-school centre helps underpriveleged children dream big

New Delhi: An NGO called Navjyoti has given a new ray of hope to underprivileged children. An after-school centre that provides activity based learning, it nurtures their ambitions and dreams.

An alcoholic father, a dependent mother and a younger brother who has already quit school is life for 13-year-old Ram Nivas. But in the classroom, he does a 'Taare Zameen Par' with his latest achievement, an electric swing. Helping him take baby steps is Navjyoti.

Ram Nivas said, "We were asked to make something for a presentation. So we made it for that purpose and showed it to our teacher. We were appreciated for our work."

Shaheen, a class 10 student aspires to be a doctor. She lives in a tiny room with a family of six. Her father, an ex-CRPF personnel and the rest are extremely supportive of her ambitions and Navjyoti is nurturing her ambitions....more
