New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) may hand life bans to the tainted quartet of S Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila, Ankeet Chavan and Amit Singh in a meeting in Chennai on Sunday. Sreesanth, Chandila, Chavan have played several matches for Rajasthan Royals this season, while Amit represented the Jaipur-based IPL team for the first few seasons.
Sreesanth, Chandila and Chavan have reportedly confessed to spot-fixing in the ongoing sixth edition and speculation is rife that the BCCI has made up its mind to punish them severely. Whether it happens on Sunday or not is still a matter of conjecture.
The Indian board is also looking at starting criminal proceedings against the players. Also, the ICC Anti-Corruption and Security Unit - in charge of vigilance and anti-corruption procedures in the IPL - is likely to face a hard time because the BCCI has reportedly been told by several franchises that the ACSU is not doing its job properly. So there is a possibility that the ICC body may get the boot in the meeting.
According to sources, the BCCI is also looking at a few other players who have been named in the police investigations for their alleged involvement in spot-fixing. Clearly, Sunday promises to be big and the BCCI may come up with decisions that may have a deep impact on not just Indian cricket but international cricket at large. ...
