
New Delhi: The government has brainstormed on the new anti-fixing law and some strict measures now seem to be in the pipeline. Sources say that fixing will be made non-bailable and will invite a fine of up to Rs 5 lakh.
Sources are indicating that the new law will be modeled on the lines of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), a strict law, under which the burden of proof rests with the accused. The law will also have some elements of the Money Laundering Act provisions. Under the Money Laundering Act, anyone found guilty can be given rigorous punishment from three to seven years.
Earlier on Friday, the BCCI Disciplinary Committee chief Arun Jaitley met Indian Premier League chief Rajeev Shukla on Friday to discuss the spot-fixing and illegal betting scandal in the IPL. Both the leaders met Law Minister Kapil Sibal demanding that a strong anti-fixing legislation be "enacted as soon as possible".
"We have requested Kapil Sibal to ensure that the strongest possible punishment is made in the new law to bring an end to fixing in all games," Shukla said after the meeting. "We will soon meet the Sports Minister (Jitendra Singh) because he also wants a strong law. We will request him that a law should be made," he added....
