Little did Shashi Kapoor know that his love for theatre will also help him find the love of his life, Jennifer Kendal. Shashi Kapoor met Jennifer Kendal in 1956 in Calcutta while working for their respective theatre groups. Shashi Kapoor was a stage manager with Prithvi Theatre, while Jennifer was a part of her father Geoffery Kendal's Shakespearana group. Soon after their first meeting, Shashi Kapoor started to tour with the Shakespearana group.

Born in the 'Kapoor' khandan, Shashi Kapoor took to acting like a duck to water. After making a few appearances as child artist in film, he made his Bollywood debut in 1961. But unlike his father and brothers, Shashi Kapoor did not just stick to Bollywood films. He became the first actor to experiment with English films while simultaneously working in Bollywood films. Shashi Kapoor is one Bollywood actor who did not shy away from experimenting with English films at the nascent stage of his career. Within two years of making his debut in Bollywood, he was seen playing the lead in Merchant Ivory production 'The Householder'. Away from playing the typical 'hero' in Bollywood films, he also took up serious roles in his offbeat films. He played the role of a teacher who learns the nuances of a married life in 'The Householder'.
