New Delhi: Chennai Super Kings made their fifth final in six seasons when they defeated Mumbai Indians by 48 runs in Qualifier 1 of IPL 6 at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium on Tuesday. While the win took Chennai directly to the final on Sunday, Mumbai still have a chance left as they will play the winner of Wednesday's Eliminator between Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad on Friday.
Mike Hussey (86* off 58 balls) and Suresh Raina (82* off 42) have done it so many times in the past for Chennai, and the left-handed duo did it again on Tuesday, stringing an unbroken stand of 140 for the second wicket. Chasing a mammoth 193, Mumbai were in the game until Dwayne Smith was going berserk. But after his departure, wickets fell like ninepins and they lost the contest by a huge margin.
Hussey needed just one ball to get off the mark when he caressed Mitchell Johnson's full toss through midwicket for four. Murali Vijay (23) too got going with a single off the first ball and two boundaries in the second over bowled by Munaf Patel, who was included in place of injured Dhawal Kulkarni - one of four changes Mumbai made.
Harbhajan Singh continued his brilliant form with the ball, giving away just two runs in his first over. Lasith Malinga made a faulty start, bowling a few loose deliveries and Hussey took full toll, scoring two boundaries through the off side. Hussey came down

Jaipur: Shane Watson once again stamped his authority with 70 off 34 balls to propel Rajasthan Royals to an impressive five-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings that took them to number two in the IPL 6 points table. The victory helped Rajasthan touch the magical figure of 20 points after 14 matches. Chennai's openers - Michael Hussey and Murali Vijay - were subdued in their approach as the pitch was...

Hyderabad: Suresh Raina on Wednesday reminded everyone yet again how clean a striker he is of the cricket ball as he smashed an unbeaten 99 off just 52 balls to hand Sunrisers Hyderbad their first loss (77 runs) at home, ensuring Chennai Super Kings a place in the play-offs. Had Raina got one more run, he would have equalled David Warner's record of scoring two centuries in a single edition...

Chennai: Chennai Super Kings coach Stephen Fleming on Sunday praised his senior batsman Michael Hussey for his contribution to the team, describing the Australian as the pivot of CSK's batting in the IPL. "It was great innings, isn't it? He has been consistent though there was some criticism in the manner in which he scored runs. The way he has played against different teams has been quite dynamic. I cannot...

Chennai: It rarely happens in T20 cricket that a team loses despite one of its batsman score a hundred. But the IPL 6 witnessed such a game on Monday when Shane Watson's brilliant 61-ball 101 went in vain as his side, Rajasthan Royals, ended up on a losing side. The allrounder rued that they couldn't execute their plans well and that led to their downfall. "Few things went my way...

New Delhi: Mahendra Singh Dhoni's presence in the middle order makes it easier for him to nudge around singles and play his natural game, feels Aussie veteran Michael Hussey. "Obviously, when you have someone like MS (Dhoni), you tend to bat more freely. You can just take your singles and rotate the strike. It's really an enjoyable experience batting with guys like MS and Suresh (Raina) who are boundary hitters,"...

Chennai: Chennai Super Kings coach Stephen Fleming feels Michael Hussey's retirement from international cricket will work in his team's favour in the ongoing 6th Indian Premier League, as the batsman would be available for the entire season. "It helps and since Michael and (Murali) Vijay had great partnerships. There have been ups and down in 20-20 cricket but it has been very good for us," Fleming told reporters Friday, the...
