
Now that IPL 6 has come to a close, we take a look back at the matches where lesser-known Indian domestic players grabbed a slice of the limelight.
Jasprit Bumrah makes a splash
The little-known Jasprit Bumrah, a 19-year-old medium-pacer from Gujarat, was handed his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 4 to much surprise. Having conceded three fours in his first four deliveries, Bumrah picked up the wicket of RCB captain Virat Kohli in his first over. He then added Mayank Agarwal and Karun Nair to finish with 3 for 32.
What was remarkable was how quickly Bumrah had been drafted from Gujarat's T20 team into the Mumbai franchise. On March 31, he picked up the Man-of-the-Match award in the final of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, India's domestic Twenty20 competition, for excellent figures of 3-1-14-3. Former India coach John Wright, now in charge of Mumbai Indians, happened to be present at Indore. Within a couple days, Bumrah found himself sharing the dressing room with Sachin Tendulkar, Ponting and Harbhajan Singh.
