Bijapur encounter: Villagers killed could have been innocent New Delhi: Over 48 hours since the Bijapur encounter in Chhatisgarh, government sources now concedes that those killed could have been innocent villagers.

One CRPF Cobra jawan and seven villagers, including three children, were killed in the encounter at Ehadsameta village of Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh late Friday night.

CRPF and state police involved in the operation had initially claimed that the encounter was genuine but now sources in the Home Ministry suggest that the villagers might have been caught in the cross fire and killed by mistake.

Meanwhile, villagers claim they had gathered for the seed festival when CRPF indiscriminately fired at them....more
