She has enthralled the South and Bollywood audience all through her career spanning over 56 years, with many memorable songs.

She has been recently in news for rejecting the Padma Bhushan conferred by the central government saying that she has been extremely saddened at North Indian's were given more prominence than the South in Padma Awards.
