Doordarshan to telecast award winning indie films New Delhi: Prasar Bharati, the statutory body to govern Doodarshan's broadcast policy, has agreed to telecast independent films after 10 PM. As per this decision, the films that have been already shown on the small screen will get Rs 15 lakh while the films that will be aired for the first time on DD will get Rs 25 lakh.

This reaction from Prasar Bharati has come in response to a campaign initiated by a group of independent filmmakers. The campaign was called Save Indie Cinema and filmmakers such as Onir, Ashutosh Gowariker and Resul Pookutty were among the active members of it.

The Save Indie Cinema campaign believed that the government needs to take steps to ensure that independent filmmaking doesn't become an obsolete tradition.

The campaign raised relevant questions about the distribution methods of a film. In the current scenario, the tickets to two films with entirely different budget scales are priced at the same value which restricts a better visibility of the film....more
