25 years of BR Chopra's 'Mahabharata': Do you remember these iconic characters?

It's been 25 years since BR Chopra's 'Mahabharata' took to the Indian screens and became one of the most popular TV series. The 94 episode series started in October 1988 and ran till June 1990.It's not just the series that became popular but the characters and the actors also became hit with the audiences. Here is a look at the unforgettable characters and actors from the series. The story began with King Shantanu (Rishabh Shukla) and Ganga's (Kiron Juneja)love story and the basic premise of the series was set in this time. Who can forget Bhishma Pitamah and his bhishm pratigya (vow)? Mukesh Khanna set into the shoes of a stern son who refuses to marry for the happiness of his father turned out to be one of his best performances on screen. After Mahabharata, the actor found success in the 'Shaktiman' series but for most of the people he still remains to be the unforgettable Bhishma Pitamah.
