Security tightened across Assam on I-Day eve Guwahati: Security has been tightened across Assam on the eve of Independence Day with additional forces deployed at sensitive locations to foil any attempt by militant outfits to create disturbances.

"We have deployed additional forces. Besides, there is some intelligence feedback about attempt by the anti-talk faction of ULFA to trigger blasts in upper Assam districts," State Director General of Police JN Choudhury told PTI on Tuesday.

The state police is coordinating with other security agencies to maintain peace and thwart attempt by militant groups to disrupt peace on the day.

A 'red alert' has already been sounded across the state, which witnessed a few IED blasts targeted at security personnel during the past couple of weeks, particularly in Goalpara district. The anti-talk faction of ULFA has called a customary state-wide bandh on the day....more
