Goa's Ranji Trophy captain banned for two matches Panaji: The Goa Cricket Association has stripped Sagun Kamat of the state Ranji Trophy squad's captaincy and banned him from two first-class matches after he was found guilty of assaulting a player.

Sagun allegedly assaulted Kashinath Chari, a rival player, during a Premier League tie on April 21. A composite fine of Rs 2,500 was levied on Chari. Being an employee of Goa Cricket Association (GCA), Chari faced another action for misconduct for going on leave uninformed, for which his pay for two days was deducted.

The GCA inquiry committee, chaired by vice-president Dr Shekhar Salkar, met at the GCA headquarters in Porvorim on Thursday and gave its ruling following the fracas that ensued during the lunch break of a Premier League tie between Dempo Cricket Club captain Sagun Kamat and Kashinath Chari of Sunny Cricket Club on April 21.
