Ishrat Jahan fake encounter: HC tells CBI to focus on investigation New Delhi: The Gujarat High court, hearing Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case, has on Friday told the Central Bureau of Investigation that the focus should be on ensuring proper investigation. "For the CBI, the focus should be on ensuring proper investigation. Your investigation should not focus on whether the Intelligence Bureau data was genuine or false," said Justice Jayant Patel.

The CBI wanted IPS officer Satish Verma to continue assisting the agency in the investigation. The agency also said that it needs to ascertain whether former Joint Commissioner of Police Pande had met Ishrat Jahan and others before they were killed. The CBI has not filed a chargesheet in the case as the investigation is still underway.

The next hearing in the case is on June 18 in which the court is likely to decide whether Satish Verma will assist or not. The CBI on the instruction of the high court took over the probe of the fake encounter in which 19-year-old Ishrat, Javed Sheikh alias Pranesh Pillai, Amjad Ali Rana and Zeeshan Johar were killed in Ahmedabad on June 15, 2004 allegedly by Crime Branch team led by DIG DG Vanzara.
