
New Delhi: Sports Minister Jitender Singh has said the ongoing spot-fixing controversy has not just given a bad name to cricket but also to sports as a whole.
Talking exclusively to CNN-IBN, the minister said, with greater money in cricket, it must be ensured that there should be more responsibility by all.
Singh also said there was no need to stop the IPL, but there should be checks and balances, so that the sport remain clean. "[I] don't think one should stop IPL, but certainly time has come to create checks and balances," he said.
The minister admitted that although it would be a tough task to do so, he was determined to try his best to draft a law to combat cheating in sports. He said he would work with the Law Minister, Kapil Sibal, to ensure there would be enough regulations to combat the menace.
