New Delhi: Former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi on Tuesday clarified that his co-operation with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in its investigations into the allegations of financial irregularities against him in the conduct of Twenty 20 cricket tournaments remained full and unequivocal.
"I have constantly re-iterated my willingness to co-operate with any further questioning by the Indian authorities. I remain legally resident in England and the general nature of the current investigation, which has revealed no individual allegations against me, do not affect my current status," Modi said in a statement on his website. "I will continue to offer my full support and co-operation to further the ED's investigation," the statement added.
The government on Monday initiated fresh steps to bring back the former IPL commissioner from the UK where he has been staying for nearly two years. The Finance Ministry, said sources, had written to the External Affairs Ministry pointing out that Modi continued to stay in the UK even though his passport had been revoked. The matter, however, is sub-judice. The Finance Ministry has asked the MEA to take the help of British authorities to extradite Modi to India.
Asked about the developments, External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid said his ministry and the Finance Ministry would be on the same page in the matter.
