Chennai: The Madras High Court on Friday ordered issue of a notice to former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on a petition seeking a direction to police to probe a complaint against him for allegedly making certain "malicious" remarks at a public meeting here over a decade ago. BR Gauthaman, in his petition, referred to media reports on October 24, 2002, that Karunanidhi had said at a public meeting that the word "Hindu" denoted "thief" and contended that he was a Hindu and the statement has hurt his religious sentiments.
