Mumbai: The rupee on Friday weakened further by 10 paise to 55.69 against the dollar in early trade on the Interbank Foreign Exchange due to appreciation of the US currency overseas. Dealers attributed the rupee's fall to dollar gains against other currencies overseas but a higher opening of the domestic equity market capped rupee's losses to some extent.
The rupee had lost 13 paise to close at a fresh six-month low of 55.59 against the dollar after dropping to eight-month low of 56.01 intra-day in Thursday's trade.
Meanwhile, the BSE benchmark Sensex was up by 139.39 points, or 0.71 per cent, at 19,813.72 in early trade today.
