Kolkata land row: CPI-M calls Mamata a pathological liar Kolkata: After the Congress and the BJP, the CPI-M is now facing a probe for alleged financial irregularities. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has ordered a probe into what appears to be a massive irregularity in projects related to housing and land running into thousands of crores of rupees.

CNN-IBN had found that developers for Kolkata's posh 65-acre Urbana township were given land at throwaway prices by the then Left Front government in 1994. About 67 acres were given at an unusually low premium of Rs 27 lakh.

CID's preliminary report named three key CPI-M leaders including Surjya Kanta Mishra, Goutam Deb and Abdur Rezzak Mollah. But the Left Front has outrightly denied all allegations. CPI-M leader Gautam Deb said, "Mamata has supplied you with the toilet paper. You know about the details. I do not know. I will speak, but I will speak only when I am fully prepared."

Senior CPI-M leader Binoy Konar said, "It's a bogus story. Mamata is a pathological liar. Let her proceed with the investigations. And let us see if she comes with out anything."...more
