'Vishwaroopam': Kamal Haasan's star studded premiere in Tamil Nadu

The 'Vishwaroopam' premiere at the Sathyam Cinemas screened by Kamal Haasan on February 6 had the who's who of the Southern film industry attending it and giving their thumbs up for the show.

Music director Yuvan, Karthi and Raja was seen attending the Vishwaroopam premiere show.

Tamil Friday: Finally 'Vishwaroopam' hits the screens

It is one Friday that Tamil fans would have been waiting for a very long time. After a long struggle for it's release Haasan's Vishwaroopam finally hit the screens in Tamil Nadu today.

Tamil Nadu's date with Kamal Haasan's film 'Vishwaroopam' has finally arrived. Ending the 10-day-long wait, Kamal Haasan's Rs 95 crore finally released on Thursday in Tamil Nadu.

The Madras High Court had on Monday closed all petitions filed by the actor against the prohibitory orders invoked by the state administration to prevent its screening.

The current series of events regarding the release of Kamal Haasan's 'Vishwaroopam', saw the Tamil film fraternity reacting strongly over it's ban by the Tamil Nadu Government

The film ran into trouble just one day ahead of its slated release when some Muslim groups protested claiming that the film offensive scenes have hurt their sentiments.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa stuck to the decision of keeping the film off the screens in the state until the Muslim groups and actor Kamal Haasan reached an amicable agreement.

It was a dramatic Wednesday for Kamal Haasan's fans with the actor first addressing a press conference demanding for a secular state, then eventually succumbed to pressure and agreed to cut some scenes from his film 'Vishwaroopam'.

Kamal Haasan's film 'Vishwaroopam' was banned in Tamil Nadu on the insistence of some Muslim organisations which felt that it depicted the community in poor light.

Late on Tuesday night, the film got relief from the Madras High Court after the court decided to put in abeyance the prohibitory orders issued by the Tamil Nadu government to delay the film's release. However, the order has now been challenged by the state government.

'Parzania' to 'Vishwaroopam': Banned, canned and shunned films in India

Actor-director Kamal Haasan's controversial film 'Vishwaroopam', facing a two-week ban in Tamil Nadu amid protests by Muslim community, was released in Kerala but its screening was stopped by police in Hyderabad over security concerns. However, this isn't the first time that a film has courted controversy in India.Above is a still from the film Parzania, a 2007 drama co-written and directed by Rahul Dholakia and David N Donihue. The film starred Naseeruddin Shah and Sarika in the lead roles. It was inspired by the true story of a Parsi boy who disappeared after the February 28, 2002 Gulbarg Society massacre. The film was banned in Gujarat.

Firaaq, a 2008 political thriller set one month after the 2002 violence in Gujarat, was banned in the state. The film went on to win two National Film Awards.

Black Friday, a 2004 film written and directed by Anurag Kashyap, earned the ire of some political sections for focussing on the aftermath of the Bombay blasts in 1993. The film was banned in Gujarat.
