They say actresses have limited scope in Bollywood. Several actresses in Hindi films may have started of as leading ladies in films, but soon were reduced to playing mother's and sister's role to their contemporary heroes.After playing leading lady to Amitabh Bachchan in 'Kabhie Kabhie', Rakhee played his mother in 'Shakti' - a casting which seemed a bit odd to many. But the actress managed to pull off a stellar performance and still plays mother to many of the contemporary heroes. The quintessential mother of hindi films, Nirupa Roy actually started her career playing the leading lady in films like 'Do Bigha Zameen' opposite Balraj Sahni. Eventually she played the mother's role in several films which starred Big B.Although she was never the leading lady in any film, Farida Jalal played the romantic lead to heroes like Rajesh Khanna in 'Aradhana' and fiance to Rishi Kapoor in 'Bobby'. The film revolves around Manju (Rekha) whose sister gets married.In 'Sholay', Jay (Amitabh Bachchan) takes Veeru (Dharmendra) marriage proposal to Mausiji's place and tells her that Veeru has a few wrong habits but he is a man with a golden heart. It is one of the funniest scenes of the film. In 'Chupke Chupke', vivacious Sulekha (Sharmila Tagore) falls in love with Botany Professor Parimal Tripathi. Ramu Kaka takes the marriage proposal to Sulekha's house and calls Parimal 'Ghaas Phoos Ka Doctor'.

Remembered as Bollywood's evergreen hero, Dev Anand died of cardiac arrest on December 3, 2011 in London. He was 88.Yesteryear actress Waheeda Rehman was in tears as she unveiled a life-like brass statue of screen legend Dev Anand. The statue is a part of Walk of the Stars in Mumbai now. His son Suniel was also present at do. Suniel Anand pays tribute to his father on the occasion of his first death anniversary observed at Ramleela maidan in Mumbai.
