Oscar winning director Steven Spielberg has expressed his desire to produce a film based on Kashmir. It is not the first time that Hollywood directors have taken to India for inspiration. Many films have been shot in India and many have their stories set in India. Here is a look at 15 directors and their films that put India on the global map.

Oscar-nominated film 'Life of Pi' traces back the childhood of their protagonist Piscine Molitor Patel in India. Ang Lee shot 30 percent of the film in Puducherry.

Who can forget this popular scene from the latest Batman series 'The Dark Knight Rises'. Christopher Nolan took to Jodhpur to shoot the nail biting prison sequence in the film.

Oscar Guide 2013: The best and worst of 'Best Actress' nominations

For her portrayal of a CIA agent who undertakes a decade-long search for Osama bin Laden, Jessica Chastain is the frontrunner for the best actress at Oscar. Known for being a character-actor, Jessica Chastain has nailed 'Zero Dark Thirty' with her performance.

Jessica Chastain comes forth as a strong character in Kathryn Bigelow's 'Zero Dark Thirty' and she has already bagged the Golden Globes for the best actress. Her biggest contender at the Oscars is Jennifer Lawrence for her performance in 'Silver Linings Playbook'.

The oldest Oscar best actress nominee Emmanuelle Riva, who will turn 86 on the Oscar night, has already won herself a BAFTA. And, the French actress seems a promising contender to take back the golden lady with her brilliant performance in 'Amour'. Emmanuelle plays Anne Laurent in the touching tale of an elderly couple whose love for each other is tested after she suffers two strokes.

Oscars Guide 2013: The best and worst of 'Best Picture' nomination

Of the nine films nominated in the Best Picture category, here is why you should watch some and give the others a pass. A favourite this awards season, Ben Affleck's 'Argo' is just the kind of movie that is needed in this day and age. Based on a true incident when six Americans were miraculously rescued by CIA from Iran during the peak of Iran hostage crisis, 'Argo' gives an amazing glimpse of a society that can work towards if everyone is willing to give it a shot.

David O'Rusell's 'Silver Lining Playbook' seems like an unlikely choice in the Best Film nomination list. While other nominees are primarily drama, 'Silver Lining Playbook' is romantic-comedy. Many of the critics have panned the film and called it too superficial and frothy. Will it get an Oscar nod or not is something we will have to wait and watch but its lead actors- Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper are being considered as strong contenders to clinch the trophy of Best Actress and Best Actor category respectively.

Katheryn Bigelow's 'Zero Dark Thrity' is based on how American troupes raided Osama Bin Laden's hideout in Pakistan and eventually killed the world's most dreaded terrorist. The war docu-drama is a very detailed film- something which is needed when one is making a film based on real life incident. The film is seen through the eyes of Maya (Jessica Chastain), a female CIA officer handling the case. It also gives out a powerful message of how a woman calls the shots in world full of men.

Hollywood Friday: 'Zero Dark Thirty' vs 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower'

Two Hollywood films Oscar nominated 'Zero Dark Thirty' and Emma Watson's 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower' will fight it out at the box office this weekend.

'Zero Dark Thirty' is a historic drama that revolves around the killing of AL-Qaeda leader Osama Bin laden.

Directed by Kathryn Bigelow, 'Zero Dark Thirty', the film stars Jessica Chastain, Jason Clarke, Joel Edgerton and Chris Prat.
