While being a reality TV star calls for persistent efforts and luck, maintaining the popularity and monetary gains that comes along is also an uphill struggle. But there have been several celebrities whose careers saw a meteoric rise after their stint in reality TV.
Sushant Singh Rajput, who was earlier seen in show 'Pavitra Rishta', appeared in 'Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 4'. Even though the actor couldn't win the show, he has become popular. While 'Pavitra Rishta' helped him display his acting skills, 'Jhalak' put forth his impeccable dance moves. His performance in 'Kai Po Che' helped him win roles in Aamir Khan's 'Peekay'. He has several offers up his sleeve.
Actress Prachi Desai, who kicked off her acting career with popular TV show 'Kasamh Se' in 2006, won 'Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 2' in 2007. It was her win that helped her venture into Bollywood. In her debut film 'Rock On', she starred opposite Farhan Akhtar. She has romanced Emraan Hashmi in 'Once Upon a Time in Mumbai', Abhishek Bachchan in 'Bol Bachchan' and John Abraham in 'I, Me Aur Main'.
Before he got the chance to work in 'Bade Achhe Lagte Hain', a show that has expanded his female fan base, Ram Kapoor got several prominent films. The list of films he was seen post his reality TV stint such as 'Karthik Calling Karthik', 'Udaan', 'Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu', 'Student Of The Year', 'Mere Dad Ki Maruti' - is indeed impressive.
After ending up as the runner up in 'Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa', Gauhar Khan appeared with sister Nigaar Khan in 'The Khan Sisters', an Indian version of 'Keeping up with the Kardashians'. In 'Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 5', she was paired up with Gurmeet Choudhary.
If Sachin and Supriya Pilagaonkar are popular that's because this husband-wife jodi can do just about everything. From acting to dancing, they have done everything to entertain their fans. Hence, it was understandable that their fan base expanded post their win in 'Nach Baliye' in 2006.
Tanaaz Irani and Bakhtiyar opened their dance academy in Dubai by the name Tee Bee. Even though they couldn't win 'Nach Baliye' in 2006, the husband-wife duo was seen in 'Bigg Boss 3', 'Maa Exchange' and 'Nach Baliye Shriman v/s Shrimati'.
The winner of dance reality show 'Dance India Dance 2', Shakti Mohan made a brief appearance in the video of the title song Akshay Kumar-starrer 'Tees Maar Khan'. However, her hard work didn't go unnoticed in item song 'Aa Re Pritam Pyaare'. Shakti Mohan also essayed the role of Kria in the 'Dil Dosti Dance'.
Who says only popular faces who win reality shows make it big in the showbiz industry? Salman Yusuff Khan, who won 'Dance India Dance Season' flaunted his flawless dancing skills in the title song of 'Wanted'. Besides doing a music video 'Dance Of Death' for 'Rakta Charitra', he was the choreographer for Yana Gupta and Isha Sharvani in 'Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa'. His debut film 'ABCD: Anybody Can Dance' also helped him a great deal.
While her win in 'Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa' helped her garner huge popularity, it also allowed the actor to bag some interesting opportunities. Besides hosting key TV shows, Mona Singh also appeared in '3 Idiots'. To be in a film which starred Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, R Madhavan, was no mean feat. Her last show 'Kya Hua Tera Vadaa' was a hit with the masses.
After wooing audience with her dance moves in 'Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa', Shweta Salve appeared in a string of reality. She not only appeared as a host in 'Cricket Star', but also participated in 'Khatron Ke Khiladi 2'. Shweta Salve also performed an item number in 'Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji'.
