Happy 62nd birthday Mammootty: What makes him Malayalam cinema's superstar

Mammootty, who has worked in over 375 films and mainly in Malayalam cinema, turns 62 today.
Mammootty's real name is P I Mohammed Kutty. He was born on September 7, 1951 in a farmer's family.
He started his career as a supporting actor with the film 'Anubhavangal Paalichakal'. His first film as a lead actor was 'Devalokam', but this film was never completed. His popular films include 'Sphodanam', 'Sphodanam', 'Ahimsa' and others.
The actor got much recognition in 1980s due to his powerful performances. In a span of five years from 1982 to 1987, Mammootty acted in more than 150 films in the lead role.
1986 film 'Oru CBI Diary Kurippu' is one of his biggest hits till now. He played a CBI officer in the film.
Known for some of his memorable performances, the actor won three National Award for best actor and eleven filmfare awards.
Mammootty is the first Malayali actor to be honoured with the Padma Shri (1998) for his contribution to cinema.
Mammootty has also acted in a Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada and English films.
He made his bollywood debut in 1989 with 'Thriyathri', though his first film as a leading actor was 'Dhartiputra'.
