'Gunday', 'Main Tera Hero', 'Dedh Ishqiya': Is love triangle Bollywood's favourite plot for success?

The love triangle has invariably been used as a plot device by filmmakers, courtesy the enticing drama created by the character torn between two admirers/lovers. The latest to join the brigade is the forthcoming 'Gunday' with Arjun Kapoor, Ranveer Singh falling for Priyanka Chopra.
Besides exploring the concept of love and deceit in 'Dedh Ishqiya', filmmaker Abhishek Chaubey also included the idea of love triangle. While Vijay Raaz (Jaan Mohammad) manages to woo Madhuri (Shahi Begum), she looks more impressed with Naseeruddin Shah (Khalujaan).
This forthcoming film is another rom-com that revolves around a love triangle. With 'Mai Tera Hero' Varun gets to work with dad David Dhawan for the first time.
Both Parineeti Chopra and Sidharth Malhotra meet for a short time, separate only to meet again after years. Both fall for each other just when Sidharth is to tie the knot with Parineeti's onscreen sister Adah Sharma.
Directed by Kapil Sharma, 'I Me Aur Main', a love triangle, featured Prachi Desai and Chitrangada Singh in lead roles. Vishesh Bhatt's 'Murder 3' wasn't an adaptation but a spoof of Spanish thriller 'The Hidden Face'. It revolved around how a distressed Randeep Hooda whose girlfriend Aditi Rao Hydari disappears without a trace forges a new bond with Sara Loren to come out of despair.
The story of 'Once Upon Ay Time in Mumbai Dobaara' is a love triangle set in 80's underworld. Their unconditional love for the same girl Sonakshi Sinha turns the camaraderie of underworld don Akshay Kumar and his disciple Imran Khan into animosity.
'Raanjhanaa' marked Bollywood debut of Dhanush. The star, who is in love with Sonam since childhood, is jealous of Abhay, a struggling politician, who is about to get married to her ladylove. While Dhanush is fond of Sonam, friend Swara Bhaskar loves him unconditionally.
The wheel-chair bound Jimmy Shergill (Thakur Aditya Pratap Singh ), who is already married to Mahie Gill, falls for the pretty Ranjana (Soha Ali Khan), who decided to marry him to teach Irrfan Khan a lesson.
Writer Jaideep Sahni may have not succeeded in getting people in hordes to watch his film 'Rocket Singh' but with his film 'Pure Desi Romance' he managed to do that. Directed by Maneesh Sharma and produced by Aditya Chopra, the film featured Sushant Singh Rajput, Parineeti Chopra and Vaani Kapoor in key roles. The film was lauded for exploring the way young generation handle issues of commitment, live-in relationships and arranged marriages as compared to love marriages in small town India.
