  • Kurbaan, Main Aur Mrs Khanna, Blue, London Dreams, Chandni Chowk to China, and Delhi 6 are some movies that have been 2009's biggest turkeys.
    The year started with one of the biggest duds, Akshay Kumar and Deepika Padukone starrer Chandni Chowk to China. Hollywood studio Warner bros marked their Bollywood debut with this film and director Nikhil Advani spent Rs 80 crore to make this film. After the first show reactions, it was clear that Chandni Chowk to China won't last for more than a week at the theatres. It went on to be a big flop and managed to recover only Rs 20 crore,and brought Akshay Kumar's market rate down by half.

  • After Rang De Basanti, there were a lot of expectations from Rakyesh Omprakash Mehra's Delhi 6 starring Abhishek Bachchan and Sonam Kapoor. UTV spent Rs 48 crore on this much-anticipated film. Though the music had picked up and created all the required buzz and most critics gave it a thumbs up, the movie-goers chose to stay away from Delhi 6 which bought the recovery close to just Rs 15 crore.

  • Diwali week is considered a big week for the business of Bollywood. This year too had its share of festive attraction at the theatres like Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor starrer Main Aur Mrs Khanna. Produced by his brother Sohail khan and UTV, this Rs 40 crore project tanked on Day 1. With disappointing reviews and bad word of mouth, the film struggled to collect even Rs 10 crore at the box office.

  • On the same day Bollywood's delayed but ambitious underwater film Blue saw the light of the day. Rs 98 crore were spent by producers Ashtvinayak on debudant director Anthony D'Souza. Undoubtedly the trust seemed over the top. With big names like Akshay Kumar and Sanjay Dutt playing the lead and an item number by none other than popstar Kylie Minogue Blue managed to generate its share of pre-release buzz. Critics panned this film on the first and there were very limited underwater scenes. With a box office recovery of only Rs 10 crore this one was a box office washout and moneywise the biggest flop of 2009.

  • Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan teamed up once again after Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam for Vipul Shah's London Dreams. This film based on the life of a rock band - made at a budget of Rs 60 crore, managed to recover only Rs 15 crore from the theatres. The movie about music and love was anything but musical for the audience.

From the Rs 50 crore spent, Kurbaan recovered only Rs 20 crore, giving Dharma Productions its first flop in a long time.

    Move over Khans, the Kapoor kid is here to stay. 2009 saw Ranbir's Wake Up Sid, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani and Rocket Singh: Salesman Of The Year make their way to the top of the box office. While Wake Up Sid grossed Rs 36 crore, Rajkumar Santoshi's candyfloss flick Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani raked in a cool Rs 90 crore worldwide, making Ranbir and Katrina Bollywood's latest hottest pair. Katrina's golden run at the box office even helped New York earn a neat Rs 61 crore.
