Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee began her poll campaign with a massive foot march in Kolkata on March 27, 2011 along with other senior party leaders and candidates.

Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee walked all of seven kilometres wandering through five Assembly constituencies, large parts of which have an overwhelming minority presence.

Clad in a green-bordered white sari, Mamata Banerjee, walked the five-km route from Thakurpukur to Behala canvassing support for her party as a huge crowd fell over each other to get close to her.

Mamata Banerjee was accompanied by deputy leader of the opposition in the state assembly Partha Chatterjee and city mayor Sovan Chatterjee, both of them, candidates for Behala East and Behala West constituencies that fall under her South Kolkata Lok Sabha seat.

Thousands of people lined up the streets to catch a glimpse of the leader who was accompanied by party supporters holding cut-outs of her and posters promising to build a new Bengal.

Banerjee walked through Rajabazar, Sealdah, Moulali, Entally, Mullickbazar, Park Circus and other minority-dominated areas. She even passed through such Assembly constituencies as Beliaghata, Chowringhee, Entally and Ballygunge.
