Can Aamir's marketing strategy beat Big B's 'Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap'? With 'Delhi Belly', it is a clear step towards ushering in the genre of the profane sex comedy into Indian mainstream cinema.
Aamir Khan and his team of strategists set the ball rolling for 'Delhi Belly' promotions several months before the date of the film's release. Compared to that, Big B started his promotions around 'Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap' only recently. Will months of team huddles and brainstorming sessions give a tough fight to Senior Bachchan's evergreen charisma?
It has been reported that Ranbir Kapoor was earlier supposed to play the male lead in this film. However, after he declined, Aamir decided to cast Imran as the country was swooning over him for 'Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na'. Now, the country is swooning over Imran instead, after the runaway success of 'D K Bose' and his all new look in the film.
The music has really given a big thrust to the film and the buzz around it. 'D K Bose' and 'Switty...' have attained anthem-like status. With the music topping charts, the film has already grabbed the curiosity factor of movie buffs.
The two other young men to accompany Imran in the film are two actors who found their footing in the acting world on the theatre stage. Vir Das is a regular name in the Mumbai stand-up comedy ciruit. Kunaal Roy Kapoor is the director of popular play 'The President is Coming'.
The main cast of the film has jammed live before an audience and launched T-shirts in the Mumbai suburbs. Mr Perfectionist Aamir has even donned the shiny pants to shake a leg for an item number in the film. With the music, marketing strategy, Aamir's backing and tremendous buzz created around the film, 'Delhi Belly' definitely has caught the movie-goers' eyes.
