Death of Osama Bin Laden: Osama Bin Laden, the mastermind behind the September 11, 2001, terror attacks that killed thousands of Americans, was slain in his luxury hideout in Pakistan on May 1 in a firefight with US forces. Osama's death is the third most talked about trend on Facebook in India.

Death of Jagjit Singh:Acclaimed ghazal singer Jagjit Singh died on October 10 at Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital after a brain haemorrhage. He has sung in several languages including Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi and Nepali. His silky voice ruled during early 80's in films like Prem Geet, Saath Saath and Arth. The discussion about him and his death has been reported as the fourth most popular trend on Facebook in India this year.

Death of Steve Jobs: Apple co-founder and former CEO Steve Jobs, who gave the world the iPod and the iPhone, died on October 5 at the age of 56. He had been battling cancer and other health issues for several years and had a rare form of pancreatic cancer. His death is the fifth most talked about topic on Facebook.

Yuvraj Singh: Yuvraj Singh became the sixth most talked about trend on Facebook because of two major reasons. First, his good performance during this year's World Cup, which India won and made him win the title of the Man of the Tournament, and the second reason is his serious injuries and health issues. Yuvraj has been troubled by health issues since the World Cup. Recently, it was revealed that Yuvraj has a "non-malignant tumour" in his left lung and that is the reason why the flamboyant left-hander opted out of the ODI series against West Indies.

Rockstar: Imtiaz Ali's Rockstar was heatedly discussed on Facebook both before and after its release. The movie, which hit the theatres on Nov 11, became the hot topic because of many reasons - Rahman's soulful music tracks, Ranbir's brilliant performance, debutant Nargis, who made news for her beauty and lack of acting skills.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni: Captain Cool's name appears on eight number on the list. Under his captaincy, the Indian team managed to win World Cup this year. The Indian skipper and captain led his team to India's second World Cup victory after 28 years. Dhoni is also quite know for his cool and calm behaviour under pressure.

Indian National Congress: The Indian National Congress has been ranked the ninth most discussed topic on Facebook in India in 2011. The Congress party was involved in various controversies including - the 2G spectrum scam, Anna Hazare's campaign against corruption, petrol price rise and many others. The year is about to end, but still Congress party is facing criticisms and is being strongly opposed over the issue of allowing greater Foreign Direct Investment in Retail and IT Minister Kapil Sibal's Internet censorship drive.

Sikkim and Gujarat Earthquakes: This is the tenth most widely talked about trend on Facebook in India this year. On October 20, an earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale hit Gujarat. The quake was felt for 25 seconds in Junagadh. The state was rocked by a 7.6 magnitude earthquake on January 26, 2001 leaving 20,000 people dead. On September 18, an earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale left at least 54 dead, over 100 injured and caused damage worth Rs 1 lakh crore. Mild tremors were felt in Delhi and other parts of North India.
