First Look: Anurag Kashyap's 'Gangs Of Wasseypur Part II'

The mystery surrounding the release of the second part of gritty thriller 'Gangs Of Wasseypur' has been cleared. The movie will hit the screens on August 8.

The movie is an extension of 'Gangs of Wasseypur', which was released on June 22 to much critical acclaim and also turned out to be a box office bonanza.

Earlier, the release date of the second part wasn't announced.

Both the parts were screened at 65th Cannes International Film Festival, and were applauded by international film aficianados.

The first part narrates the story of Sardar Khan and Ramadir Singh, based on the real life story of Shafi Khan and Surya Dev Singh, both of whom were rivals and are no longer alive.

Part two of the movie is essentially the story of Sardar Khan's son Faisal Khan, who is Faheem Khan in real life.

Faheem Khan is alive and in the Dhanbad jail currently.

According to insiders, the makers of the film wanted to sort out all possible issues which could act as a roadblock, before announcing the release date.

The critically acclaimed Gangs of Wasseypur is a gritty celluloid saga of the coal mafia and blood thirsty vengeance.

The first film may have set the cash registers ringing, but residents of Wasseypur say the success comes at the cost of their integrity, respect and honour.

Anurag Kashyap's directorial venture gives a distorted message about the Muslim-dominated area's social, cultural and economic life and only perpetuates stereotypes, say the outraged people of Wasseypur, just two kilometres from Dhanbad station.

From the title to the content, the film, boasting an ensemble cast including Manoj Bajpayee, has led to hurt and indignation in Wasseypur.

The audiences have given the thumbs up to Anurag Kashyap's 'Gangs of Wasseypur part I'.

It opened to full houses in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand and is also drawing crowds in multiplexes in the Metros, distributors say.

The publicity team of 'Gangs of Wasseypur' has left no stone unturned in promoting the film, especially through the social networking sites.

The film has been screened and appreciated at prestigious film festivals across the globe, so the Indian audiences were waiting for its release.

'Gangs of Wasseypur' had recovered its cost even before its release, and the collection of first three days is apt enough to make it a success, but it's not sweeping the audiences off the feet like 'Rowdy Rathore' and 'Housefull 2'.

Written by Zeishan Quadri, who hails from Wasseypur, known for the bloody rivalry between gangster Faheem Khan and businessman Sabir Alam over scrap business, the film is described as a cinematic offering that has hurled audiences right into the notorious anarchy of the North Indian small-town where the barrel of the gun speaks an irresistible language of mayhem by a reviewer.

Directed by Kashyap, it has too much of gore and blood and it is believed that violence on this level has never really been a part of mainstream Hindi cinema before.

The audiences are thronging the cinema hall to see this blood saga.

Kashyap, who co-produced the film with Sunil Bohra, has said that it is his most expensive film and he reportedly had to spend Rs 15 crore on paying the actors.

Manoj Bajpayee, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Richa Chadha, Huma Quershi, Reema Sen and Piyush Mishra's have stepped into their roles convincingly.

The powerful performances have made this real life-based story into compelling cinema.

'Gangs Of Wasseypur' opened with 45 to 50 percent occupancy in Kolkata.

Nawazuddin Siddique has been applauded for his acting in GOW part 1.
