Tamil actor Suriya turns 40 on July 23.
Suriya debuted in the 1997 film 'Nerrukku Ner', which was directed by Vasanth.
His major break came in the form of 'Nandha', which was directed by Bala.
In 2003, he starred in Gautham Menon's 'Kaakha Kaakha', a film about the life of a police officer.
Suriya's portrayal of a happy-go-lucky village crook with a comic touch in Bala's 'Pithamagan' won him the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2003.
In 2005, he played an aggressive boxer in 'Perazhagan'.
Suriya also featured in psychological thriller 'Ghajini' in 2004.
After several years of being engaged, Suriya married actress Jyothika on September 11, 2006.
In 2006, he acted with Jyothika and Bhumika Chawla in N Krishna's film 'Sillunu Oru Kaadhal'.
In 2007, his only release was 'Vel', which was a commercial hit.
Suriya collaborated with Gautham Menon for the award winning film 'Vaaranam Aayiram'.
