Sridevi's much-lauded comeback film English Vinglish seems to have done much more than just revive her career. It has brought the interest back in the sari.
-
-
Sridevi is mostly seen in South cotton saris in the film.
-
-
She plays a middle-aged housewife in the film and her sari collection comprised mostly sober, single-toned cotton and cotton-crepes.
-
-
The saris she wears at home are cotton and cotton-mixed block prints.
-
-
Cotton Kanjivarams, cotton Ikkats were also spotted. In this scene she wears a yellow sari with red and black border.
-
-
Sri uses her saris in the film for comfort unlike Sushmita Sen who made it a fashion statement in the film Main Hoon Na.
-
-
A rare silk was spotted in one scene of English Vinglish and this onion-coloured Tasar looks gorgeous on her.
-
-
The block print nicely off sets the pink of this one. We wouldn't be surprised if Sridevi starts a rush to buy block prints from retailers.
-
-
A closer look at the sari. Her blouses are fairly simple, no nonsense affairs.
-
-
We spotted some gorgeous South silks as well. This green is simply stunning.
-
-
Notice how filmmakers use the saris to highlight her various moods. The dull white-brown combination is used to reflect the condition of Shashi's mind at that moment.
-
-
The superb Tasar pink is a collector's item.
-
-
There were some plain pinted synthetic ones as well. This green flower print is ordinary enough but used to maximise her slim curves.
-
-
She is shown in motherly white cottons in scenes with her children.
-
-
Every home shot has her in white cottons. We like that Gauri Shinde kept it realistic. After all women wear their worst when they are working inside their homes. The serials that show heavily made up women wearing stunning silks at home are simply implausible.
-
-
Oh to own that green silk! The zari border could have been brighter but overall it's a great sari to own.
-
-
A synthetic crepe with jungle print, Sridevi may have just brought these saris back into fashion.
-
-
We personally love this all season red and white cotton hand print. You can wear it to work, to the market and to the local temple.
-
-
The gold work on the drape, this sari could have done with some of the work all over the length.
-
-
Maroon and gold zari work - nice for outdoor wear on a winter morning.
-
-
A Georgette-lycra mix flower print that is just fantastic as day time wear.

When you are hit by the blues, what other colour to wear than this lovely tasar-jute silk blue?
