  • While many gadgets surprised us this year with their innovative features and great performance, but a spate of gadgets and services on the other hand proved to be flops in the world of tech. Here is the list of the biggest tech failures of 2012.

  • Sony Smartwatch - It's biggest flaw is that this watch is only for Android users. So, if you don't have an Android phone, it's of no use. The Sony SmartWatch failed to impress us. It may be a gadget to flaunt but according to us it's not of much utility in day to day use.

  • LG Optimus Vu - Its odd shape is the biggest drawback. Its shape is not meant for a smartphone. It's too wide for a phone which makes it comfortable to hold. Any rectangular 5-inch phone is better than what LG came up with - a shape that lies in between square and rectangle.

  • Apple Maps - Apple came up with its own Mapping service this year which proved to be a dud. Apple CEO Tim Cook apologised for the company's error-ridden new mobile mapping service. Users complained that the new Maps service - based on Dutch navigation equipment and digital map maker TomTom NV's data - contained geographical errors and gaps in information, and that it lacked features that made Google Maps so popular from public transit directions to traffic data and street-view pictures.

  • Microsoft Surface tablet - Microsoft seems to have gotten the design and form factor right with its new Surface tablet computer. But the user interface, not so much. "Surface is a mess," said David Morgenstern, technology writer for online trade magazine ZDnet.com.

  • The Nokia 808 PureView is a flop. It's only good feature that makes it stand apart is its 41 MP camera, which hardly is of any use. In the world of Android, iOS and Windows, this phone wa launched on the Symbian platform. It proved to be a washout.
