Bangalore: Kannada Film Producers' Association imposed a three-year ban on actress Nikita Thukral for her alleged role in creating problems between Darshan and his wife Vijayalakshmi.
Speaking to reporters, Soorappa Babu, secretary of the Association, said that the decision was taken in the interest of Kannada film industry and Vijayalakshmi on humanitarian grounds.
"Everyone is aware of her alleged role in creating problems for Vijayalakshmi. We do not want heroines who create problems between heroes and their wives," said Soorappa Babu. It was said that Nikita would not be allowed to act in any Kannada film for three years.
Currently Nikita is the heroine for Darshan starer 'Sangolli Rayanna'. It is directed by Naganna. Nikita had already acted in films such as 'Yodha' and 'Prince' with Darshan in the main lead. "We have no problems if she wants to complete the shooting for 'Sangolli Rayanna' but she cannot sign new films. We have already informed our members not to engage her as heroine in their films,” said Babu.
Meanwhile, Nikita said that she was not aware of the three-year ban on her by the Association. "I will give my reply when I receive the letter from the Association. I am planning to visit Bangalore shortly. I will, if need arises, visit the Association office to answer their queries," said Nikita.
The actress said that there was no need for a three-year ban on her since she has nothing to do with the actor’s personal life. "A few people have claimed that I am very close to Darshan. I am not a close friend of any one in Kannada film industry."
Shooting of 'Sangolli Rayanna' stalled
Kannada movie producer Anand Appugol’s next big budget project 'Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna' is in troubled waters. The producer might have to drop a duet song starring controversial stars Darshan and Nikita, following the Karnataka Film Producers Association’s decision to boycott Nikita from acting in Kannada films for three years.
While Dharshan is playing the role of Sangolli Rayanna, Nikita is acting as his wife in the movie which will be dubbed into nine languages including Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati and Bhojpuri. Anand Appugol told The New Indian Express on Sunday that the shooting of his film 'Sangolli Rayanna' is almost completed and only 15 days’ shooting is pending. The producer detailed that the shooting would be taken up in the month of November in Belgaum.
However, Nikita cannot be called for further shooting, as the producers association have levelled a ban against her. Appugol said 'Sangolli Rayanna' is his dream film. His ambition was to introduce the story of Sangolli Rayanna to other parts of India as he waged a war against the British in 1824. Sangolli Rayanna was the Lieutenant of Kittur Channamma who lost to British during a war in 1824.
Appugol said noted Hindi film actress Jayapradha is playing the role of Kittur Channamma in the film. The film was already shot in Jaipur. He said the budget of the film has crossed Rs 18 crore and is planning to release the film in Karnataka during the month of March. The dubbing of the film in other languages would be released after the Kannada film completes 100 days.
Reacting to Darshan's arrest by the police, Appugol said though the reason for his arrest was due to a minor problem, it was made big incident as Darshan is a public figure.
