New Delhi: Senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj on Wednesday said that the BJP will announce its decision on the Presidential candidate on Thursday. Earlier, a strategy meeting of the BJP on the presidential elections was held on Wednesday evening at the residence of senior leader LK Advani. The meeting was attended by Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj, veteran leader Jaswant Singh and Janata Party chief Subramanian Swamy.
After the meeting, Subramanian Swamy said that the NDA has got at least 10 persons who are capable of being the Prime Minister and Narendra Modi is among one of them.
JD(U) leader DC Thakur on Wednesday again repeated the party’s stand, saying “We will not support any communal candidate for the post of Prime Minister.”
According to sources, Swamy is keen on launching an all out attack on UPA presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee from an NDA platform. The Janata Party chief wants the NDA to accuse Mukherjee of involvement in corruption cases.
Meanwhile, sources said that several NDA leaders are unhappy with the way the agenda has been hijacked.
At the moment, the situation seems to be favouring Swamy, for Advani is convinced that the Janata Party chief can add to the NDA tally.
