At around 9am on 26th December 2004, thousands living along the coast in Tamil Nadu saw a mountain of water coming hurtling down towards them. It was a sight most had never seen. That day, the tsunami killed more than 8000 people living along Tamil Nadu's coastline. Villages, dotting the coast, drowned as women, children and men - young and old were all swept away by the sea. While hundreds died across the state, Nagapattinam suffered the most casualties - more than 6000 died and many are still missing.
