The birth control pill turns 50 today. It was in 1960 that the US Food and Drug Administration approved the medicine. Since then, women has used it to prevent unwanted pregnancy giving them a degree of control over their reproductive health. The advent of the pill has seen a decline in unplanned pregnancies, abortions and infant mortality.
