The UPA government is finding itself isolated and cornered as most of the political parties have termed the ordinance unconstitutional. There is also dissenting notes within the Congress over its timing. The government is facing the wrath of the public for passing an ordinance on convicted legislators, which allows convicted and jailed MPs and MLAs to contest elections. The ordinance is a reversal of the Supreme Court judgement that had not only disqualified lawmakers convicted of offences with 2 years or more in jail but also also barred from contesting elections.
