New Delhi: In the last months of 1970, the great cricketer - the Nawab of Pataudi - suffered two major defeats. First, in August, the Lok Sabha voted to annul the privileges of the princes. Next in December, Pataudi was sacked from the captaincy of the Indian Cricket team. The cricketer then sought to avenge these twin defeats by standing as an independent candidate in the Lok Sabha elections. Unfortunately, he lost there too thus suffering a hat-trick of defeats at the hands of his political and sporting masters.
